Television

I hear so many people talking about their guilty pleasures. I don't understand what that means. I don't feel guilty about any of my pleasures, including the laundry list of television shows I watch on a regular basis. I will only mention one show I love that is no longer on, because if you haven't seen it, you need to take a weekend and just sit and do nothing but watch the whole series. I'm talking about Six Feet Under.
Most of you know Michael C. Hall as the lovable serial killer Dexter. I know him as the self-loathing gay brother who runs a funeral home.

I watch a ton of tv. Maybe I watch more than I should, and maybe I don't. What I do know is that I make no apologies for the shows I love. I sometimes sit around an entire Sunday catching up on dvr'd shows and watching bad movies. Here are some of the shows I watch on a regular basis:

Parenthood

Criminal Minds

Modern Family

Person of Interest

Mob Wives

Supernatural

I like shows where they use great music. I like crime drama. I like to laugh. I like shows where I get so involved with the characters that they kind of feel like family. I watch pretty much all AMC, HBO, and Showtime series. I heard Starz has some good ones now too, but I don't have Starz, and I'm not getting it. I'll leave you with one of my favorite songs, that played on Thursday night's episode of Point of Interest.

Fever Ray - If I Had A Heart

You don't have to feel guilty or ashamed of anything you enjoy. And don't let anyone make you think you do.

Happy picture of the day: fresh-squeezed orange juice. I juiced about 16 tiny oranges to get this one large glass of juice. It was worth every minute.

  1. The way I see it, a "guilty pleasure" is something that you know isn't all that good for you but you love it anyway like County Fair food. In my case, I love things that most people just shake their heads at. I don't mind, but knowing that it isn't something others are interested in, I tend to not talk about it. Does that make sense? I'm not embarrassed by them, I just don't make a big deal about it.

As for TV shows, I can't say I've seen any that you listed but that is only because I really limit what I watch otherwise, I'm sure I'd get nothing done, but right now I love, Love, LOVE: Finding Bigfoot, Ancient Aliens, The Walking Dead and reruns of Star Trek.

  2. I just don't like the term because it implies you should feel bad about the choice. I had a deep fried Snickers at the fair this year, I didn't feel like it was a guilty pleasure. I felt like it was a treat. Treats are great to be enjoyed in moderation. I don't think people should be made to feel bad about food, or other choices. The words carry a weight I'm just not comfortable with.

I LOVE old Star Trek. Watched all the original episodes on Netflix instant a while back. I have a ton of sci-fi stuff in my house. The Walking Dead is a phenomenal show!

  3. I get that. Makes sense too. I guess I just never really put that much into the connotations of the words. But you're right. Labeling something a guilty pleasure does make it sound like it is a bad thing.

And deep fried Snickers? How was that? I've heard of them, but never actually tried them. I'm not a big fan of Snickers...maybe a deep fried Mounds or Milky Way?

  4. I also don't say things like, "I was bad today. I ate some fried chicken and cake." That kind of language is what gives little kids food issues. I try to just start each day anew and aim to eat healthy. If I have a day where I eat really rich foods I just realize I have to balance that out in the days following.

I bought the deep fried Snickers as a novelty. I never imagined it would be so delicious. It was wonderful. I also once made tempura bacon, with a chipotle aioli. Deep fried, breaded bacon? Yep.

  6. I'm totally team Dean. I think it's because I remember Jared from Gilmore Girls, when he looked like a baby. Haha.
