December Movies

Umm, can someone tell me where this month went? I am pretty sure I wrote my November movie post like two days ago (that use of like is dedicated to Kellie)!! Anyways, here are some of the smatterings of love I watched and enjoyed this month.

Clay Pigeons - This is one of my all time favorites. It had been a few years since I had watched it. Black comedy starring Joaquin Phoenix, and Vince Vaughn. So many great lines and just an altogether really great movie. Also, the theme song by the Old 97's is a great piece of music.

Shut Up Little Man! - Holy crap is this a good documentary. These guys move in to a slummy apartment with loud alcoholic neighbors. They start making audio recordings of the neighbors' conversations and splicing them in to tapes they make for friends. It ends up blowing up and people want to make movies about it. There are H. Crumb like illustrations done of them and a puppet show. So good.

Craigslist Joe - Documentary about a guy leaving his house with no money and just a few things on his back in a backpack, and relying on people on Craigslist to live for a month. The part that touched me most is when he is invited to have dinner with an immigrant family and it really gets to him. Very sweet and well made documentary.

A Separation - I had heard great things about this movie and can't believe it took me this long to watch it. A couple in Iran are going through a separation and something terrible happens when the husband brings a caregiver in to care for his father with Alzheimer's. The writing and acting are superb. You will be shocked, you will cry, and you will really feel for these characters.

Beyond The Myth - A heartbreaking documentary about the vilification of the pit bull breed. I myself love pit bulls and always have, even though one bit part of my face off when I was younger. It's not a breed that is evil, it is the owner. This movie delves in to the statistics that prove that breed specific legislation is horrible, and some cities have killed 2000 of these dogs simply for physical characteristics, even if they were really great family pets. Very sad indeed. Human discrimination is not okay, and neither is animal discrimination.

Aziz Ansari: Intimate Moments For A Sensual Evening - Funny as shit. That is all.

Take This Waltz - Easily my favorite watch of the month. A story about a quirky lady and her husband who loves her dearly. A story of betrayal and loss. Well acted and touching. I laughed, and I cried, and I even yelled at the screen once. Plus, it has some of my favorite musical artists featured as background music. That always gets me.

B.I.K.E. - This is the movie that I was most excited about, that turned out to just be "meh." It's supposed to be a documentary about an outlaw bicycle club. It concentrates way too much on a heroin junkie named Tony who is trying to get in to the club, and we see him naked....A LOT. I was so tired of Tony's ass at the end of this film that I actually wrote to the filmmakers to ask why they didn't just call the movie "Naked Junkie Tony." Seriously.
